SignPost is our award-winning, in-house signing facility, providing ITV's family of television channels with British Sign Language (BSL) translations of broadcast programming, including the popular omnibus edition of Emmerdale.
The SignPost team carries out a significant community service for deaf and hard of hearing people.
Its free, award-winning children's storytelling website, Signed Stories, has more than 170 children's books accessible in BSL with animation, narration, music and subtitles. It was launched in 2008 to help deaf children improve their literacy. Children with special educational needs and dyslexia also benefit from using the website.
The team works with top publishers to produce BSL versions of some of the UK's best selling children's books. In 2011 Signed Stories became ITV's first web production to be repurposed for television and it is now a regular sign-presented series on CITV.
New in 2012 was the launch of the Signed Stories the App. Just like the website, the app brings the best children's books to life, but it is also available in American Sign Language as well as BSL.
The app is accessible to every child. As well as being a rich shared experience for families, it is also a powerful literacy tool which can be used in the classroom.
SignPost is one of the UK's largest professional deaf and hearing television production teams, translating information into BSL for websites, DVDs, mobile, broadcast and other on-screen platforms.
